The Hygiene Superheroes

Students from ADWPS

Before encountering our curriculum, the students at Adi Dravidar Welfare Primary School in Melma Nagar used to use an open field to defecate. This was more than unsanitary — it was also unsafe.

Students reported people shouting at them as they used the field, as well as snakes and scorpions on the ground! After being taught our hygiene curriculum, instructors at this school encouraged students to advocate to their parents to have a toilet built in their homes.

The students banded together, and used their new knowledge to advocate to their parents & family members for new toilets to be constructed throughout their community.

These students taught their parents the importance of proper toilet use and handwashing, and now, more than 50 new toilets were built as a result of their hard work.

Even better, the field where students used to defecate in the open is now a clean place for them to play!

Children can now be seen playing soccer and riding bikes in this lot. We’re so proud of these students for being positive change-makers in their community!
